Medical Needling is done in a professional setting, doctor’s office, or medical spa (like Rejuvenate 528), by a trained professional, and goes deeper than cosmetic needling. It is done at a depth of greater than 0.3mm usually ranging between 0.5mm to 2.5mm and can only be done by a medical professional.

During the procedure, there may be pinpoint bleeding. Afterward, your skin will look red and will most likely be slightly puffy.

The good news is that medical micro-needling offers a quick recovery. Down time is usually about one day. And depending on whether you add Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid or PRP, downtime may only be a few hours.

Medical grade micro-needling pens, like the Eclipse MicroPen that we use, create hundreds of vertical microscopic channels in the skin. These pens are motorized and allow precise control of the needle depth. After selecting the depth needed, the pen is gently moved across your skin until the treatment area has been covered.

Automated Microneedling is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color.

This term, Automated Microneedling, is given to a power pen device that does the micro-needling.

During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to stimulate the repair process results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles.

Cosmetic Needling is the term given to the wide range of home micro-rolling kits used for the face and body.

Home Cosmetic Rollers or Dermal Rollers do not go as deep as Medical Microneedling.

Most Cosmetic Needling Instruments only penetrate between 0.1mm and 0.3mm and are done in conjunction with a home skin care regimen for better penetration and absorption. The skin’s absorption of vitamins, enzymes, lipids, and other ingredients is enhanced with needling and the repair process can begin almost immediately.

Dermarollers use wheels of needles while micro-needling pens have cartridges with a cluster of needles at the tip. Both work by causing an injury to the skin to stimulate the growth of new collagen and elastin. Increased collagen and elastin improves the appearance of scars and wrinkles.

You will want to use your cosmetic instrument needling after you pre-cleanse and tone the skin, and before applying your moisturizer.  Be sure to only use skin care products recommended by a professional as you are now allowing deeper absorption and will want to use safe, proven products when needling.

When starting on a cosmetic needling regime, you will typically start by doing this 2x per week and gradually increasing to everyday.

Do not force the roller onto the skin and apply deep pressure, instead gently roll with mild pressure.

When rolling start by going vertically, then horizontally followed by diagonally. Effectively creating a + and an X over the desired area to be treated.

Use warm water to rinse your instrument after every use and be sure to have some instrument cleaning solution to soak your roller at least 1x per week or as needed.
