Microneedling: A New Way to Make Collagen
Microneedling is a gentle, non-ablative procedure for skin improvement.
The treatment utilizes a medical device that creates micro-needle punctures to the skin’s surface. As a positive consequence, the repair process releases numerous endogenous healing and growth factors that stimulate new collagen, new capillaries, and cell regeneration under the skin’s surface.
This accelerated, natural repair process will continue and extend over a twelve to sixteen week period after treatment.
The Microneedling Process
The process of Micro-Needling is called CIT or Collagen Induction Therapy. CIT is used to Improve:
The Texture and Tone of Your Skin.
What is Medical Microneedling?
Medical Needling is done in a professional setting, doctor’s office, or medical spa (like Rejuvenate 528), by a trained professional, and goes deeper than cosmetic needling. It is done at a depth of greater than 0.3mm usually ranging between 0.5mm to 2.5mm and can only be done by a medical professional.
During the procedure, there may be pinpoint bleeding. Afterward, your skin will look red and will most likely be slightly puffy.
The good news is that medical micro-needling offers a quick recovery. Down time is usually about one day. And depending on whether you add Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid or PRP, downtime may only be a few hours.
Medical grade micro-needling pens, like the Eclipse MicroPen that we use, create hundreds of vertical microscopic channels in the skin. These pens are motorized and allow precise control of the needle depth. After selecting the depth needed, the pen is gently moved across your skin until the treatment area has been covered.
Topical lidocaine cream makes the procedure virtually painless. Medical Micro-Needling is considered a very cost-effective treatment and it is easily individualized. Areas with skin damage that require a more aggressive approach can easily be treated with a longer needle depth.
Medical needling is being used on the face for acne scars, fine lines, skin tightening, and to shrink pores. The face, neck, and chest are the most treated areas, although the pens can be used all over the body and have shown great results with scars, stretch marks and more.
The Microneedling procedure can be repeated safely. In fact, multiple treatments are necessary and recommended.
The number of sessions depends on the skin condition being treated.
3 – 4 treatments are recommended for mild to moderate acne scarring.
6 treatments or more for deeper scars and stretch marks.
4 – 6 week intervals between treatments is recommended.
Maintenance treatments are recommended 1 – 2x per year.
What is Automated Microneedling?
Automated Micro-Needling is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and the improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color.
Automated Micro-Needling is the term given to a power pen device that does the micro-needling. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to repair process results in a thicker epidermis with a softer appearance of wrinkles.
An Outstanding Product Absorption Booster
These superficial micro-channels also allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.
Specific treatment products can be selected to achieve accelerated results. We’ll employ various topicals depending upon your needs
Lightening or Bleaching Serums
Stem Cells to Multiply New Young Cells

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?
Micro-Needling benifits include the reduction in appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, improved skin tone and texture, and softer, younger-looking quality skin, with fewer signs of aging.
With the use of the MicroPen Elite, we can improve the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, as well as uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars, and stretch marks.
This treatment improves cell turnover, skin quality, skin color, and increases collagen 300%.
What Areas Can I Have Treated?
MicroPen Elite can be used to treat various issues on all parts of the body including the face, neck, decollete, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.
How Is The Procedure Done?
A sterile applicator containing 12 tiny micro-points is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen®. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of serum customized to your skin and select the appropriate treatment setting based on your unique needs.
Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding until the entire treatment area has been covered.
What Micro-Needling Feels Like
The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen is similar to sandpaper being moved across the skin.
While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip makes the treatment more comfortable.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
The procedure takes 15 – 30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.
What is The Downtime?
Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the depth of needles used and the number of overlapping passes are performed.
This is a results oriented procedure.
On average, client’s skin is red for 2 – 4 days. Some clients heal completely in 24 hours.
When Will I See Results?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin.
Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several weeks.
Results can continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.
How Many Micro-Needling Treatments Will I Need?
Some patients only require a single treatment once a year to achieve optimal results.
However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2 -3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6 -8 sessions at 6 week intervals.
What is The Vampire Facial®?
The Vampire Facial® is a Micro-Needling technique where we add PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma, topically to your skin before, during and after your session.
This procedure has been made popular by many Hollywood Celebrities.
This treatment is a staff favorite for most skin conditions and is highly recommended if you are seeking results, as it increases collagen by 3000% for up to 6 months!
What is Cosmetic Needling?
Cosmetic Needling is the term given to the wide range of home micro-rolling kits used for the face and body.
Home Cosmetic Rollers or Dermal Rollers do not go as deep as Medical Micro-Needling.
Most Cosmetic Needling Instruments only penetrate between 0.1mm and 0.3mm and are done in conjunction with a home skin care regimen for better penetration and absorption. The skin’s absorption of vitamins, enzymes, lipids, and other ingredients is enhanced with needling and the repair process can begin almost immediately.
Dermarollers use wheels of needles while micro-needling pens have cartridges with a cluster of needles at the tip. Both work by causing an injury to the skin to stimulate the growth of new collagen and elastin. Increased collagen and elastin improves the appearance of scars and wrinkles.
You will want to use your cosmetic instrument needling after you pre-cleanse and tone the skin, and before applying your moisturizer. Be sure to only use skin care products recommended by a professional as you are now allowing deeper absorption and will want to use safe, proven products when needling.
When starting on a cosmetic needling regime, you will typically start by doing this 2x per week and gradually increasing to everyday.
Do not force the roller onto the skin and apply deep pressure, instead gently roll with mild pressure.
When rolling start by going vertically, then horizontally followed by diagonally. Effectively creating a + and an X over the desired area to be treated.
Use warm water to rinse your instrument after every use and be sure to have some instrument cleaning solution to soak your roller at least 1x per week or as needed.
We carry several different Cosmetic Home Rollers. Be sure to inquire about which ones are best for you.
Benefits of Cosmetic Micro-Needling
The main benefit of using the instruments is to enhance the perfusion of the ingredients found in your skin care products which may assist to:
Restore the look of skin tightness in the early stages of aging.
Speed up the appearance of a visible reduction of pigmented marks.
Support the firmer look of thin fragile skin.
Reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Soften the appearance of scars and uneven skin tone.
